In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), we do not knowingly permit persons under the age of 13 to provide personal information through the Teaching and Learning Alliance Inc. (TLA) website or any online educational program in which TLA may participate. If such provision is detected, TLA will take appropriate steps to remove this information from our databases.
TLA participation in online educational services is not intended to solicit information of any kind from children under the age of 13, and we do not and will not knowingly contact or collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. The only personal information that we receive about children under the age of 13 is information provided by the child’s school or school district as legally obtained from a parent or legal guardian or information provided by the child incidental to that child’s participation in a course or courses as part of that child’s online educational program.
TLA does not collect personally identifiable information relating to children under the age of 13 except as noted above. Children under the age of 13 may not provide personally identifiable information without prior parental consent provided to the child’s school or school district, which will enable the parent to prevent the use of the information and participation in the activity. Children under the age of 13 may not distribute personally identifiable information without prior parental consent.
It is possible that by fraud or deception by others we may receive information pertaining to children under the age of 13. If we are notified of the receipt of information under such circumstances, once verified, we will promptly coordinate with the child’s school or school district to obtain parental or guardian consent, or, in the absence of such consent, will delete the information. If you wish to notify us that we have inadvertently received information relating to a child under the age of 13, please do so by emailing us at [email protected].
Authorization for TLA to engage with any child under the age of 13 is provided to TLA by the child’s school or school district and TLA shall rely on such information. Parents and legal guardians should communicate directly with their child’s school or school district as needed in this regard. Such schools and school districts are responsible for determining how personal information is processed in connection with online provision of services, and responsible for obtaining the necessary consent. TLA requires all schools and school districts with which it participates in online educational programming to maintain all consents and produce them on demand.
