Promoting joyful classrooms and a love of learning is at the heart of everything TLA does. They go beyond leading teachers to improved practice, they help a school community develop a positive mindset about how to foster classrooms that value literacy. Perhaps this is what connects so deeply with teachers.

Lori Butterfield, Principal

In the years we worked with TLA, we saw student achievement rise to levels never attained before. The Guilmette Elementary School soared from a chronically underperforming school to a Level 1 school, boasting high achievement and higher growth during those years. Not only did our students improve their literacy skills, they did so in a way that cultivated a love and respect for reading and writing.

Lori Butterfield, Principal

Before meeting the TLA consultants and working on the TLA curriculum, I thought I was doing a decent job of teaching my students about words, sounds, letters, rules etc. I was using a well known phonics program which – as I compared it to the TLA curriculum, didn’t have the deep insight that TLA brought to the table. [After TLA], I felt that for once, I was teaching phonics to kids…  I also know that my students were more engaged.

Rick Weir, Cambridge Public Schools

“This [growth] would not have been made possible if it were not for the support and training we have received from TLA.  What incredible coaching and inspiration you have provided to the staff and students of our school. In a one word summary and I quote, “WOW!”  They were all so impressed, not only by the planning put forth by the teachers, but also by the depth of thinking that students demonstrated in every single classroom we all saw today.”

Principal, Amesbury Public Schools

“I [must] share the amazing transformation happening within the ELA department as a result of the work with TLA. Today, the entire ELA department and our ELD coach learned; observed our students diligently reading, talking, and writing; and debriefed about pushing their practice past their own growing edges.”

Head of Literacy and Language Department, Framingham Public Schools

“ Our TLA coach hit a home run at every visit, helping us to reflect upon our practices/materials and adjust our instruction. She is able to see the whole big picture and attend to the details and offer advice and solutions to all questions and concerns.”
