Assessment and Teacher Recording Introduction
Assessment is the on-going process of observing students at work, collecting writing samples, and interviewing students to understand and document their thinking. All of this “evidence” is then analyzed by the teacher to understand the student’s emerging skills and learning needs, and to plan meaningful, differentiated instruction. Students should also be given feedback in order to understand their strengths as writers, ways they are improving, and next steps.
